Thinking Infrastructure Smarter: Stern Technic’s 2025 Year in Review and 2026 Outlook

Between technological endurance tests, economic foresight, and a vision for the trenchless construction of tomorrow.

For Stern Technic, 2025 was not a year of vague concepts, but a year of reality. In a market environment increasingly demanding resilient solutions, it became clear which technological approaches truly hold weight. For Stern Technic, the year was defined by validation: the development of cyber-physical systems was consistently pushed forward to meet the challenges of modern infrastructure.

bauma 2025: A Milestone for BOB and BUDDEL

One of the central highlights was the presentation of the BOB and BUDDEL systems at bauma. Represented for the first time as an exhibitor at the VDMA startup stand, Stern Technic used the world's leading trade fair as a genuine testing ground for the market readiness of its developments.

Discussions at the fair and the subsequent feedback confirmed our strategic direction: the market demands smarter, safer solutions in trenchless construction. The focus remained on critical practical questions:

  • How does technology react to unpredictable deviations in the soil?

  • How can safety be increased to avoid damage to existing lines?

  • What solutions exist when conventional localization is physically impossible?

Stern Technic addresses these challenges with a smart ecosystem of specialized machinery, digital tools, and platform solutions. The fact that prototypes reached their load limits and components showed wear during testing is not viewed as a setback, but as the necessary price for true technological iteration.

Economic Lessons: Investment as the Key to Productivity

Parallel to technical development, our corporate strategy for 2025 was sharpened through fundamental economic analysis. Inspired by the work of Heiner Flassbeck (“Foundations of a Relevant Economics”), Stern Technic takes a clear stance against the current "austerity reflex" in the industry.

The macroeconomic insight that "one person's spending is another's income" illustrates the necessity of targeted investments. Particularly in economically challenging times for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), it is crucial not just to scale back, but to build up. Cyber-physical systems and robotics are not mere trend topics—they are the technological keys to increasing productivity and securing prosperity despite a shrinking workforce.

Outlook 2026: From Machine to Networked System

Stern Technic has defined clear goals for 2026 to further consolidate its market position:

  • GaLaBau 2026: Presentation of "Prototypes 2.0," based on the findings of the previous year and designed to be even more robust for practical field use.

  • Platform Development: Establishing a digital platform to effectively network cyber-physical systems like BOB and BUDDEL and make data flows usable.

  • Flexible Business Models: Evaluation of new models such as "access over ownership" to make high-tech economically attractive even for one-off projects.

A guiding principle of future research accompanies the team into the new year:

“Why make decisions based on the past? It is wiser to make decisions based on sound forecasts of the future.”
